Stage set for winter musicals: PHS, Dawson, and Shadow Creek are among schools opening shows this month

January and February are a highlight of the year for high school performing arts departments and fans of live musicals, as Houston area high schools open a wide range of winter musicals after weeks of rehearsals.

This year, Pearland High School will open “Catch Me if You Can,” a musical based on the Dreamworks film, at 7 p.m. January 24 in the campus auditorium. Performances continue at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Jan. 25, 7 p.m. on January 31, and 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on February 1. For information or tickets, visit pearlandtheatre.com

Dawson High School’s Ovation Theatre will perform the “Pippin” musical, opening at 7 p.m. January 31 in the DHS auditorium. Shows are also set for 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Feb. 1, 7 p.m. February 7, and 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. February 8. For more information on the DHS program, visit ovation584.com

At Shadow Creek High in Alvin ISD, the Off-Broadway Theatre will open the musical, “Anastasia,” at 7 p.m. Thursday, January 23, at the campus, with performances continuing at 7 p.m. on Jan. 24 and 25. Tickets are available online at schs.booktix.com.
