FHS Weightlifting Club Sweeps Texas State Championships

Friendswood High School’s Olympic Weightlifting Club delivered an unforgettable performance at the 2025 Texas State Weightlifting Championships held in Pflugerville this past weekend. Competing against 143 Youth and Junior athletes, Friendswood’s 39-member team made history by sweeping all four team championships—a first for the program.

The Mustangs claimed victory in the following categories:  

– Junior Male Team State Champions  

– Youth Male Team State Champions  

– Junior Female Team State Champions  

– Youth Female Team State Champions  

Individually, the team also shone brightly:  

– 16 Gold Medalists  

– 8 Silver Medalists  

– 9 Bronze Medalists  

A remarkable 33 out of 39 athletes earned top-three finishes in their respective age and weight categories, demonstrating both skill and consistency.

The Mustangs also achieved numerous personal milestones, including:  

– 18 All-Time Bests in the Snatch  

– 22 All-Time Bests in the Clean & Jerk  

– 19 All-Time Bests in Total Lifts  

– Eight athletes achieved a perfect 6-for-6 across all their attempts.

As a team, Friendswood achieved a 76.92% success rate on all attempts, surpassing the meet average of 76.15%.

Among the standout performances, Noah Leggio was awarded the prestigious Junior Male Best Lifter Award for his exceptional showing at the competition.

“These accomplishments are a testament to the dedication and discipline of our student-athletes and the unwavering support of the Friendswood High School community,” said Weightlifting Coach Joseph Taylor. “Their hard work and perseverance truly paid off.”
