Downtown street lighting project nears completion

Date:

The downtown Friendswood street lighting project is making steady progress, with 91 of 112 planned foundation and pole combinations now installed. Officials reported during the January FDEDC meeting that the project is moving toward final phases, though some hurdles remain.

Key remaining tasks include securing outstanding easements from property owners and finalizing metering agreements with Texas New Mexico Power (TNMP). While verbal agreements have been obtained for most remaining easements, signed documentation is still needed before proceeding with those installations.

AT&T crews are currently working to remove communication lines from existing conduit, addressing an issue identified in November. Meanwhile, some sections of the new lighting system are ready for testing once TNMP completes necessary agreements.

Looking ahead, board members are already planning for holiday decorations on the new light poles, with discussions scheduled for February’s meeting to address funding and implementation strategies.
