Pearland ISD Trustees extended the contract of Superintendent Dr. Larry Berger to June 20, 2028, this month.

“Your effects have had a reverberating effect across not just our district but our community,” Trustee Crystal Carbone told Berger during the Jan. 14 meeting.

Berger was named superintendent in April 2022 with a contract running from July 2022 through June 30. Trustees this month voted unanimously to extend that contract through 2028.

Before being named superintendent, Berger spent 15 years at PISD, including as assistant superintendent for support services, facilities director, and principal at Pearland High.

SAFETY UPDATE

Also, during its January meeting, the board was presented with the most recent campus safety audits completed in the fall semester. Twelve of the district’s 24 campuses were audited, with 83 percent of those having zero findings, according to board documents.

“One was an interior door locking issue and one was a paperwork omission, both items have been corrected,” a Jan. 7 memo states.

All campuses are routinely checked through “intruder audits” required by the state.
