Latin students excel at Area Convention

Friendswood Junior High and High School Latin students showcased their classical knowledge and artistic talents at the Junior Classical League Area A Convention this past Saturday, bringing home an impressive collection of awards. Competing against students from across the region, these young scholars demonstrated excellence in Latin language skills, classical art, and academic contests.

The Friendswood Junior High team, consisting of Ashley Johnson, Leora Okoloise, Ainsley Thai, and Katia Kick, placed 4th overall in the team competition. Individually, students excelled in various categories:

  • Katia Kick – 1st place in Sight Latin Reading and 4th place in Latin Poster
  • Leora Okoloise – 1st place in the Latin Derivatives Exam
  • Ainsley Thai – 1st place in Sculpture

Friendswood High School students also had an outstanding performance, earning top placements in multiple categories:

  • Jacob Jackson – 1st place in the Classical Art Exam, 4th place in Watercolor, and 4th place in Sculpture
  • Maxine Hoff – 1st place in Painting and 2nd place in the Roman Life Exam
  • Mckinley Thai – 1st place on the Latin Vocabulary Exam and 2nd place in the Pacer Test
  • Remo Mull – 2nd place on the Latin Derivatives Exam
  • Lauren Simmons – 4th place in Poetry
  • Giselle Garcia – 1st place on the Ancient Geography Exam
  • Ghania Mwalim – 5th place on the Latin Grammar Exam
  • Ananya Praveen – 1st place in Sight Latin Reading

Friendswood High School Latin teacher Hannah McDermett expressed her pride in the students’ accomplishments, applauding their dedication to classical studies.
