Berry Miller Junior High in Pearland ISD is among about 70 Texas campuses to be named “Texas School to Watch” by the National Forum to Accelerate Middle-Grades Reform and the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals.
It is the second consecutive time the campus has earned the recognition, the most recent being in 2019. Schools are recognized for three years, and at the end of three years, they must demonstrate progress on specific goals to be re-designated.
The selection process involves a written application that requires schools to show how they met criteria developed by the National Forum to Accelerate Middle Grades Reform. Schools that appear to meet the requirements were visited by state teams who observed classrooms, interviewed administrators, teachers, students, and parents, and looked at achievement data, suspension rates, quality of lessons, and student work.
Miller Junior High will be recognized in Washington, DC, at the National Forum of Schools to Watch Conference this summer.
