The Friendswood ISD Education Foundation (FEF) announced the awarding of three incredible Legacy Grants this past month. These grants aim to enhance student learning by fostering innovative educational experiences across the district.

The first grant, “Make Learning a Breeze,” awarded to Friendswood Junior High, provides $27,000 to create a dynamic and collaborative learning space. This initiative will repurpose an underutilized area at FJH into an interactive environment for students and staff to engage in professional development, tutoring, club activities, and instructional support. The redesigned space will encourage teamwork and innovation, aligning with the district’s mission to enhance student engagement.

The second grant, “Movement Matters: Boosting Better Learning and Energy Through Riding and Jumping,” focuses on integrating movement-based learning strategies. With an award of $46,620, this initiative will provide specialized equipment, including stationary bikes and trampolines, to promote engagement, energy, and cognitive development through physical activity across the district. Research has shown that movement enhances focus and academic success, and by incorporating these tools into classrooms and collaboration spaces, students will have opportunities to stay active while learning. The initiative aligns with the district’s commitment to innovative educational approaches supporting physical and mental well-being.

The third grant, a $20,000 Legacy Grant from Mike and Lorrie Foreman, was presented to the Friendswood High School Engineering Department for their Robotics Playing Field. This significant investment will give students hands-on opportunities to innovate, design, and compete at the highest level. The field will be a valuable resource for the growing robotics program, encouraging collaboration and technical skill development. This is the third community-funded Legacy Grant awarded this year, showcasing the incredible support from Friendswood ISD’s generous community.

Legacy Grants, which exceed the size and scope of FEF’s traditional Adopt-A-Grant program, are funded each semester through FEF’s Endowment Fund. This fund is made possible by generous contributions from Century Club members and other donors committed to enriching education in Friendswood ISD.
