Pearland Wins Over Summer Creek

Pearland senior designated hitter Logan Johnson connects for a hit on Friday night vs Summer Creek. Johnson finished the game with two hits and two RBIs in a 5-0 win for the Oilers that sealed the sweep over the Bulldogs to make Pearland the Area Round champions for the third year in a row. Up next in the Regional Semi-Finals, Pearland will face the Lamar Texans on Thursday and Friday at 7 pm, with game three on Saturday at 5 pm if needed. Pearland junior second baseman Aidan Avalos sprints to first after laying down a perfect bunt up the first base line for an infield single on Friday night vs Summer Creek.  The soft touch of Avalos allowed runner Walker Hurst to score from third base for an RBI.  Avalos finished with two hits and one RBI and played excellent defense on second base in a 5-0 win and series sweep for Pearland.  Between great defense and superb pitching from starters Grant Shepherd and Nico Partida, along with reliever Brady Brewer, the Oilers have yet to surrender a run through four playoff games.  Pearland will face Lamar in round three on Thursday and Friday at 7 pm and a potential game three on Saturday at 5 pm; all games will be played at Channelview High School.    —photo by Lloyd Hendricks
