Gage Hanson brings big ideas as Friendswood’s “Mayor for a Day”

Date:

Gage Hanson may have only held the title for a day, but he left a lasting impression as Friendswood’s honorary “Mayor for a Day.” The opportunity, awarded through the Friendswood Education Foundation’s annual auction, gave Gage a firsthand look at how the City operates—and a platform to share his ideas for making it even better.

After taking the official oath of office, Gage spent the day touring City departments, learning about municipal operations, and participating in an interview with a local reporter. What stood out most wasn’t just his enthusiasm, but his vision.

When asked if he had any policy suggestions for the City, Mayor Gage didn’t hesitate. “I think we should start a club where volunteers meet on Fridays from 6 to 7:30 and go around picking up trash,” he said. “We could call it ‘Pickup Friendswood.’”

His thoughtful proposal to launch a community clean-up initiative earned praise from City officials and demonstrated a genuine interest in community service and civic improvement.

“Gage did an outstanding job as Mayor,” the City shared in a statement. “We were very impressed with his curiosity, leadership, and ideas for making Friendswood even better.”

The Mayor-for-a-Day experience is part of the City’s ongoing partnership with the Friendswood Education Foundation, which raises funds to support local schools while helping students engage with their community in meaningful ways.
