Eleven students in Alvin ISD have been named National Merit Scholarship program semifinalists, an honor that goes to students scoring highest on college entrance exams in their junior year and representing the top 1 percent of test-takers.
Of the 11 semifinalists, 10 are students at Shadow Creek High: Arhan Ahuja, Amara Chukwumerije, An Minhngoc Dongchau, Jacob J. George, Lillian E. Gilbert, Karthik N. Kommineni, Rushil Makker, Katelyn T. Nguyen and Vincent A. Pham. Also named semifinalist was Blake Cheng from Manvel High School.
Semifinalists now advance to the National Merit Finalists standing to earn scholarships announced in the spring.
