A 96,000 square-foot expansion to chemical blending plant at Mykawa and Shank roads will move forward, Pearland leaders decided on Monday.
SolvChem Inc., 4902 Shank Road, is planning a multi-phase addition that includes a longer access drive to prevent large trucks from staging on the roadway.
City Council on Monday approved a needed conditional use permit for the expansion, adding conditions such as preservation of Oak trees on Shank Road, no outdoor storage on the expanded area fronting Shank, setbacks and screening between the property and residential areas.
Described as a “very rough road,” Shank is set to be reconstructed in 2027, according to city staff. Council members asked city staff to ensure potholes “are at least filled” until that time.
SolvChem currently employs 132. The expansion is expected to add another 31 jobs over the next three years.
