Friendswood High School senior Peyton McAshlan has earned the chapter’s first-ever State Championship after placing 1st in Senior Creed Speaking at the Texas FFA State Leadership Development Event (LDE) Contest.
FFA — formerly known as Future Farmers of America — is a national career and technical student organization focused on agricultural education, leadership development, and workforce readiness in fields such as animal science, plant science, welding, veterinary medicine, and agribusiness.
To reach the state contest, McAshlan won 1st place at the Gulf Coast District LDEs and 2nd place in Area III, advancing through two highly competitive rounds. Statewide, roughly 800 students competed in Senior Creed Speaking this season.
In Creed Speaking events, students recite the FFA Creed, then respond to questions demonstrating their knowledge of agriculture and the organization’s guiding principles. The contest judges communication skills, accuracy, and the ability to explain the relevance of the creed’s message today.
Agriculture Teacher Rachel Sawyer said the result marks a major milestone for Friendswood FFA and reflects the hard work and preparation McAshlan put into the competition.
Peyton’s state title highlights the continued growth of the agricultural science program at Friendswood High School, which provides students hands-on experience in leadership, public speaking, and modern agriculture.
