State Rep. Jeff Barry on Dec. 9 presented a resolution to the Alvin ISD board and staff recognizing the district’s 100th anniversary.
The school district’s roots stretch back to the 1880s, but it was officially created by an act of the Texas legislature in 1925.
“Over the years the area encompassing Alvin ISD has experienced substantial growth, and the district received a major increase in funding from the 1930 oil boom that provided for construction of a multi-million school building,” Barry said.
The largest district in Brazoria County, Alvin ISD includes campuses in west Pearland such as Shadow Creek High, Nolan Ryan and McNair junior highs.
In the last five years the district has added more than 3,000 students, an 11 percent increase of enrollment.
