Fite drainage project moves to design phase

Date:

Construction on a bond-funded drainage project on Fite Road will likely begin in Fall 2027.

Approved by voters as part of the 2023 bond program, the Fite Road project will improve ponding during major rains caused by undersized ditches and culverts between Cullen and Harkey.

A full asphalt rehabilitation of the road is included as part of the project, to be completed after the drainage work is done.

Pearland City Council on Monday approved a $857,310 engineering contract for the project. Design will take about 13 months, with construction set to begin in November 2027.

City voters in 2023 approved an $181.3 million bond proposition to fund stormwater drainage, infrastructure, recreation and public safety needs. The largest of four separate propositions, more than $105 million, is earmarked for drainage projects.
