Pearland crushes Alvin 59-7 to remain unbeaten

Date:

The Pearland Oilers continued their march through the 2026 football season Friday night, turning in another dominant performance with a 59-7 victory over the Alvin Yellowjackets.  Pearland showed no signs of slowing down as the Oilers overwhelmed Alvin on both sides of the ball and improved to 7-0. The 59 points marked a season high for Pearland, which has now outscored its first seven opponents by a combined 333-69.  The Oilers finished with 505 yards of total offense, including 207 through the air, and scored eight touchdowns in the lopsided victory.

Junior running back Royce Swan once again led the way for the Pearland offense, carrying the ball just 12 times for 148 yards and four touchdowns while averaging an impressive 12.3 yards per carry.  Swan has been the centerpiece of the Oiler ground attack all season, and Friday night was no exception as the Yellowjackets struggled to contain the speedy junior.  Senior running back Ryan Miller also turned in an outstanding performance, rushing for 90 yards and a touchdown on just four carries, while senior Nehemiah Wagner added another rushing score. The Oilers finished the night with 298 yards on the ground, averaging more than 10 yards per rushing attempt.

Pearland was equally effective through the air, with senior quarterback Kaleb Smith completing 11 of 13 passes for 136 yards before giving way to senior backup Blake Morkovsky, who connected on three of four attempts for 71 yards and a touchdown.  Senior tight end Karon Johnson hauled in a 43-yard touchdown reception, while junior Joaquin Soraiz finished with two catches for 63 yards. Sophomore Lance Goree Jr. added four receptions for 40 yards as Pearland spread the ball around and kept the Alvin defense guessing throughout the night.

While the offense continued to pile up impressive numbers, the Pearland defense was just as dominant. The Oilers limited Alvin to only 166 yards of total offense, including just 39 yards rushing, and kept the Yellowjackets from establishing an offensive rhythm.  Senior linebacker Kamyn Harris and junior Terrall Johnson led the defensive effort with seven tackles apiece.  Johnson also intercepted two passes, returning one 41 yards for a touchdown. Junior Terrence Spriggs added five tackles and a sack as the Oiler defense repeatedly put the brakes on Alvin’s attempts to move the football. The defensive performance was another strong showing for a Pearland unit that has allowed just 69 points through seven games.

With the victory, Pearland remains undefeated and continues to establish itself as one of the top teams in the Houston area as the regular season enters its final stretch. The Oilers have now scored at least 38 points in every game this season, with their balanced offensive attack and aggressive defense creating problems for every opponent they have faced.  Head coach BJ Gotte and his staff will have an opportunity to regroup during the upcoming bye week before returning home to Pearland Stadium for Homecoming on Friday, October 23, to face the Sam Rayburn Texans at 7 p.m.
