A Chocolate Bay Watershed Public Meeting, Clean Safe Community, is planned for January 30 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm at the Alvin Library.
The topics discussed will include Chocolate, Halls and Mustang Bayous water quality issues due to high levels of bacteria.
The City of Manvel posted that a regional entity and the state have determined the waters in Chocolate, Halls and Mustang bayous have bacteria levels high enough to affect communities. The levels can affect health, tourism, and recreational activities, like fishing and swimming, city officials report.
The Houston-Galveston Area Council (H-GAC) and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) want area feedback and input on this situation and will collect it at the public meeting.
Community input will be used to help create a plan of action to solve this issue. Community members can also call Steven Johnston at 832-681-2579 to discuss and learn more about the effort to clean the bayou waters.
The Alvin Library is located at 105 S. Gordon Street in Alvin. All interested community members concerned about the bayous are invited.
