Emergency Medical Technician is a new course offered for dual credit at Friendswood High School for 2020-2021.

Dual credit courses offer students a way to earn transferrable college credit and FHS has a dual credit curriculum through College of the Mainland.

FISD partners with COM to offer the courses at the high school level.

FISD Board of Trustees recently approved an addendum concerning the new course in the MOU from COM regarding the partnership for the 2020-2021 school year. The addendum was explained to the Board members at their August 10 meeting.

An emergency medical technician, or ambulance technician, is a health professional who provides emergency medical services. EMTs are most commonly found working in ambulances.

FHS students can register for the FHS EMT program in the fall semester August 24-December 11, 2020. The course will consist of 176 hours in 16 weeks with 11 hours per week offered in the fall. This will be EMSP 1501.

In the Spring 2021, students will register for EMSP 1260 which consists of 96 contact hours during January 19 – May 14, 2021 (a total of 16 weeks). The students taking the course will be registered as dual credit students.

Cost to students will be out of district tuition for each class, a clinical lab fee of $75 for the spring course which also has $180 feel for supplies which include clinical uniforms.

Malpractice insurance of $16 will be charged for the spring course. FHS will purchase textbooks and students will purchase workbooks.

Anyone needing additional information about the new dual credit course or dual credit programs should contact their students’ counselors at FHS.
