SOAR to host activities for Halloween, Christmas

Starlight Outreach and Rescue loves the holidays and two fun events are planned for 2020.

Each year in October, the organization hosts Howl-O-Wine in Friendswood. This year the Halloween event will be different but the benefits to the rescue group are the same, helping animals be healthy and finding a forever home for them.

Plans are underway for the Virtual Pet Halloween Costume Contest which will run October 1-14, 2020 online.

Since costumed pets will not be able to be seen in person for the contest, owners will send photos as entries to win prizes.

Prices include a $50 PetSmart Gift Card and a SOAR tee shirt for first place, $25 PetSmart Gift Card and tee shirt for second place and a SOAR tee shirt for third place.

The contest will have entrants post a pet’s photo for a cover photo for the fundraiser. The pet will gather votes for $1 per vote. The pets with the most votes win prizes and the money collected during the fundraiser helps SOAR continue its programs to benefit animals.

The steps to entering and setting up a pet photo fundraiser can be found on the SOAR Facebook page.

Halloween is not the only holiday where SOAR hosts events.

SOAR staff are also working on their holiday auction which is part of Purrs and Paws for Santa Claus set for November 8-14. The event will have an online silent auction which will run the entire week with final bids on Saturday November 14, 2020.

There will also be Holiday Pet Photos, contests, SOAR Swag that is sold, adoption specials and more.

The upcoming holidays mean fun with pets and SOAR will provide the many ways.

Starlight Outreach and Rescue is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit animal rescue organization serving Brazoria, Galveston, and Harris Counties.

Starlight Outreach and Rescue supports area shelters to provide better quality of life for stray and abandoned animals by providing medical attention beyond the scope/capabilities of the facilities, and short and long-term fostering and rescue services for animals that need medical or other special care.

SOAR also rescues animals directly from the community, housing adoptable animals as well as permanent residents at its 7-acre “rescue ranch” in Alvin.
