The Red Hat Luncheon is a tradition in Pearland and is enjoyed every year by the sold-out attendance of community members. In 2020 with so many things cancelled due to the pandemic, it is wonderful news to know  the Adult Education Center in Pearland  will have its  17th Annual Red Hat Literacy  Luncheon October 29, 2020

This year, though, it will be virtual.  The event will run from 11 to 11:45 am.

An hour before the event, from 10 to 11 am, the event’s live auction will be held live on Facebook, according to CEO and President Ernest Lewis III.

The silent auction is already posted and bids are underway on the many varied items, typical of the great silent auction packages offered each year. This year it is easy to go online anytime and bid. To do so, go to https://charitygrow.org/…/C…/Adult_Education_Center_of_Texas

This year’s theme is Next Chapter: Building on the Legacy of the Adult Reading Center.

Honorees for this year will be Community Leader,  City of Pearland Mayor Tom Reid and Corporate Leader HEB. Returning as Mistress of Ceremonies will be ABC 13 News Anchor/Reporter Elissa Rivas. The virtual event will include honoree recognition, adult learner scholarship presentations, silent auction, and raffle.

The luncheon is the largest fundraiser of the year for the Adult Education Center and welcomes more than 500 supporters from Brazoria County and the surrounding areas, according to Lewis.  The proceeds from this event directly benefit local adult learners, contributing to quality instruction, employment preparation, and innovative technology.

Sponsors for the event so far include CenterPoint Energy, HEB, A&A Cleaning Supplies, Capital Bank, ACC, Helen Beckman, Dr. Debbie Gant, DIGCO, Comcast, Memorial Hermann, Pearland Animal Hospital, Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation, Elissa Rivas, ABC 13, Friends of Ed Thompson, Joe & Lil Barath, Best Coupons, Lisa Pauls, Community Impact Newspaper, City of Pearland
