Rives seeks re-election to Drainage District

Date:

Being a Friendswood resident is a very conscience choice. This choice was made for me as I grew up here, but I chose to come back and raise my family here as well. Graduating from Friendswood High School in 1987 and returning after college to raise my family, Friendswood has always been home to me and with that I take great pride in my community. With a deep love for my community, I wanted to find a place to use my skills as an architectural designer.

Over the years, I have supported our community through service and volunteerism. I have served on many boards and committees in and around Friendswood; some of the areas of service include the Friendswood Drainage Committee, City of Friendswood Planning and Zoning Commission, City of Friendswood Community Development Design Review Committee, Friendswood Bond Review Committee, FISD Bond Review Committee, Friendswood Rotary, and numerous church, school, and civic roles. During the past 4 years of serving on the Drainage District, I have been instrumental in numerous projects and planning to effect positive changes to our creeks, streams, and waterways that are resulting in fewer properties being flooded. During the past few years, we have enacted more stringent drainage criteria for new construction and development throughout the district. I am extremely proud of our recently completed Stormwater Detention Basin at 1776 Park and Imperial Estates.

I am running to keep my seat on the Board of Directors in the coming election in May 2022. My continued goal is to find creative and fiscally responsible solutions to our flood control issues. I currently represent GCCDD on both the Dickinson Bayou Watershed Steering Committee and the Clear Creek Watershed Steering Committee, seeking both local and regional solutions to flood control in the upper Galveston County area.

I plan on continuing the work we have started, and moving on to the many drainage related projects that we have planned for additional flood relief and preparation, as this is a very personal topic for most of us that live and work in Friendswood.

For additional information, or to contact me, please go to my website marcus4gccdd.com. Follow me on social media at facebook.com/MarcusRivesforGCCDD. I am available for any questions that you might have about myself or the work of the Drainage District.

I am committed to continuing to serve our community on the Galveston County Consolidated Drainage District and ask for your support and vote during early voting (April 25th – May 3rd) or on Election Day on May 7th.
