Friendswood finishes fourth in the UIL Lone Star Cup

Date:

Friendswood has won the Lone Star Cup in the past. The last time they brought the Cup home came in the 2013-2014 school year when they won the Class 4A crown, the last school year before a Class 6A division was added.

Friendswood also has the distinction of winning the Lone Star Cup in back-to-back school years, accomplishing the feat for the 2008-2009 and the 2009-2010 campaigns.

The UIL Lone Star Cup is awarded annually to six high schools, one in each of the six UIL classifications (1A, 2A, 3A, 4A, 5A and 6A), based on their team performance in district and state championships. The winning schools in each classification will receive the UIL Lone Star Cup trophy and a $1,000 scholarship. The UIL would like to thank Texas Farm Bureau Insurance for their sponsorship of the UIL Lone Star Cup.

Schools receive points from the following: Team Tennis, Cross Country, Marching Band, Military Marching Band, Volleyball, Robotics BEST, Football, Congress, Spirit, Swimming & Diving, Wrestling, Mariachi, Film, Basketball, Robotics FIRST, Soccer, Academics, One-Act Play, Theatrical Design, Track & Field, Golf, Tennis, Softball, Baseball.

Friendswood accumulated 80 points for the 2021-2020 school year placing them fourth in the state standings.

Winning the Lone Star Cup this year was Dallas Highland Park who scored 108 points followed by Lucas Lovejoy (89), Frisco Wakeland (81), and Friendswood (80). Dallas Highland Park has dominated the competition winning the Lone Star Cup 12 times since the award was started.
