The Alvin ISD STEM Bus was launched the week of June 13, 2022 at the Bill Hasse Elementary summer school program.
During the full week of school, over 265 students visited the STEM Bus. These students were able to experience academic content through exploration in the Robotic, Augmented and Virtual Reality, Nasa and many other hands-on stations. The stations were intentionally planned to support academic content that the students in grades 3-5 had found difficult to master during the 2021-2022 school year. Circuits, matter, and energy were academic skills present in most of the stations.
“It was amazing to see a student pull out a 3-D shape from a computer, using virtual reality, and see him being able to count the faces and vertices of that shape without difficulty. That’s the beauty of having all this technology available for our students on the STEM Bus, so that we can support and enhance what they are learning in the classroom,” said Ana Pasarella, Alvin ISD Director of Family and Community Engagement.
The STEM Bus will visit the summer school students at EC Mason Elementary the week of June 20 and the summer school students at Bel Sanchez Elementary the week of June 27. At the end of the summer, over 700 students will already have experience learning on the STEM Bus.
For the school year 2022-2023, the STEM Bus plans to visit students across all the Alvin ISD Elementary campuses as well as many community places once a month to facilitate STEM Saturdays for our students.
