Pearland Celebration of Freedom Event Guide

The countdown has begun for the Celebration of Freedom events scheduled July 4 from 6 – 10 pm at Independence Park at 3449 Pearland Pkwy.

Here are some Frequently Asked Questions about the event.

Is there a cost to attend?
Admissions is free; however, a wristband is required to participate in most rides and attractions. Wristband Tickets are $5 and can be purchased in advance online or when you arrive at the event.

Will there be music? Fireworks show?
The event will feature live music from the variety band, Adrian Michael and the Greenway Band, on the H-E-B Entertainment Stage and a spectacular fireworks display.

When do the fireworks start?
The fireworks show begins at 9 p.m.

Where do I park? How much does parking cost?
General Parking is free and located at Pearland High School, 3775 S. Main Street. Follow the pedestrian walkway signs towards Pearland Parkway to easily access the park.

Where is Handicapped Parking?
Accessible parking is located onsite at Independence Park, 3919 Liberty Drive. NOTE: Vehicles must enter the park from Liberty Dr. Access from John Lizer Rd. will not be possible due to the road’s closure. Accessible parking will only be provided to vehicles with handicap placards and will be available on a first-come first-served basis.

Will there be shuttles?
No, shuttles will not be provided.

Is there a designated drop off location?
If you plan to drop off pedestrians, we recommend dropping them off at Sheryl Searcy 9th Grade Center and have them walk to the event using the surrounding roads.

Where can I pick up passengers during/after the event?
If you plan to pick up pedestrians, we recommend doing so at Sheryl Searcy 9th Grade Center. You will need to coordinate with the individual(s) to meet you at the Sheryl Searcy 9th Grade Center. Vehicles will not be able to access the event site/park until surrounding roads have been reopened by Pearland Police.

Where are the road closures?
Pearland Parkway, from Oiler Drive to Magnolia Pkwy/John Lizer Road, will be closed promptly at 5 p.m. on July 4th. Additionally John Lizer Road, from Stacey Drive to Pearland Parkway, will be closed at 5 p.m. on July 4th. All roads will be reopened, by Pearland Police, no later than 11 p.m.

What should I bring to the event?
You, your family and your friends! And don’t forget a chair or blanket, sunscreen, and bug spray! Large tents, pop-up canopies, and oversized umbrellas are prohibited. Although you don’t have to spend any money at this event to have fun, you may also want to bring money for food, drinks or for purchasing items from the novelty vendor that will be onsite.

Can I bring a pop-up or shade canopy?
No, guests are not permitted to bring popup tents, canopies, oversized umbrellas or any other shade structure that is meant to be staked or anchored to the ground. Hand held, personal umbrellas are allowed.

Can I bring a cooler with food and drinks?
Yes, outside food and beverages are allowed. Glass containers are prohibited. Tailgating and barbecuing are not allowed inside the park or on Pearland ISD property. Numerous food trucks will be onsite.

Can I bring alcohol to the event?
BAKFISH Brewing Co. and Vallensons’ Brewing Company will be onsite selling beverages.

Can I bring my pet?
For the health and safety of all our guests and for the consideration of all pets, we ask that you please do not bring your pets (of course, service dogs in harness are welcome). As a reminder, the dog park at Independence Park will be closed all day on July 4 and will reopen the following day.

Can I drive my golf cart, utility vehicle, or other motorized vehicle (hover board, electric scooter, etc.) to the event?
No. For the safety of event guests, personal motorized vehicles, such as golf carts and utility vehicles are not allowed inside the park.

Can I bring non-motorized vehicles (bikes, skateboards, rollerblades, wagons, manual scooters)?
Yes. Non-motorized vehicles are permitted, and wheelchairs and strollers are always welcome.

Can I bring my own fireworks to the event?
No. The possession or use of fireworks within the city limits of the City of Pearland and the surrounding extraterritorial jurisdiction is prohibited by City Ordinance.

What emergency services will be available on site?
An ambulance will be available on site, as well as Pearland EMS bike patrol and Pearland PD bike patrol.

What if it rains?
If we experience rain during the event, staff may suggest that all attendees seek shelter whether in the park or by returning to your vehicle. Severe weather forecast will be monitored throughout the event be event staff. Weather related updates will be posted on the Pearland Parks & Recreation special event hotline at 281-412-8900, option 3, and on the Pearland Parks & Recreation Facebook page and Facebook Celebration of Freedom event page.

How do I volunteer to work at the event and what is involved?
In addition to Parks & Recreation staff, we do depend on volunteers to make the event successful! If you are interested in volunteering and are above 16 years old, sign up here.
