Plaque placed on Brown Museum mural

Date:

A plaque has been placed by the Frank J. Brown Museum Mural. The Friendswood Historical Society placed it there to explain the mural as well as give recognition to the artist and the donors.

Historical Society members met to view the new plaque at the Frank J Brown Museum mural. Members include BJ Holt, mural artist McKenna Giamfortone, Sally Branson, Mary Perroni, Steve Rockey, Mel Measles, Matt Robinson, David Greif, and David Smith.

Members of the Historical Society gathered there recently to note the location and see the plaque.

The Friendswood Historical Society commissioned the huge mural painted the length of the fence at the museum. It depicts the elements of the city’s agricultural history and highlights the role the industry played in transitioning the original Quaker settlement into the community it is today. The settlement was established in 1895.

The mural was  painted in 2021 by local artist and teacher McKenna Harclerode Giamfortone with the help of her young daughter Frances.

The mural is a continuation of the Downtown Mural Initiative begun in 2016 by the Friends of Downtown Friendswood Association in partnership with Friendswood Fine Arts and Friendswood Historical Society.

Funding was provided by Anson Jones Masonic Lodge No. 1416, Friendswood Historical Society, Friends of Downtown Friendswood Association, Friendswood Lions Club, Friendswood Chamber of Commerce, Friendswood Rotary Club, Friendswood Education Foundation,  JP Griffon Memorial Foundation, Friendswood Heritage Gardeners, and Friendswood Downtown Economic Development Corp.

Members standing by the plaque include Historical Foundation members BJ Holt, artist McKenna Giamfortone, Sally Branson, Mary Perroni, Steve Rockey, Mel Measles, Matt Robinson, David Greif, and David Smith.
