Klein Collins powers past Dawson 38-14

Date:

Klein Collins came to Pearland ISD Stadium with a balanced offense and a suffocating defense that easily dominated the Dawson Eagles for a 38-14 non-district win.

When the Tigers weren’t rushing past the Dawson defense, they were finding holes in the Eagles defense through the air. Klein Collins had 292 yards on the ground and 186 yards through the air for a total of 478 yards and five scores.

Meanwhile, Dawson was only able to pick up 39 yards on the ground on 25 attempts while hitting 13-of-29 passing for 223 yards for a total of 262 yards and two scores.

Dawson is now 0-2 to begin the season and they will face Tomball on Friday, September 9 at Tomball Stadium at 7:00 p.m. Last season, the Cougars advanced to the 6A Div II state semifinals and an 11-4 record. The Eagles will need to have a great game to avoid an 0-3 start for the first time in school history.

It didn’t take long for Klein Collins to establish control of the game as they scored on their first possession when junior quarterback Tucker Parks hit Ethan Wyatt for a 29-yard scoring strike to make the score 7-0.

The Tigers opened a 14-0 advantage when Parks tossed a 15-yard touchdown pass to Donovan Baker with 3:37 left in the first period.

A 21-yard field goal by the Tigers stretched the lead to 17-0 in the second quarter.

Parks got in on the scoring for the Tigers when he found an opening for a 20-yard touchdown to extend the margin to 24-0 with 3:47 left in the first half.

Dawson finally got on the scoreboard with :40 seconds left before intermission when senior QB Colin Johnson scored on a 2-yard keeper. Aaron Jensen booted the PAT to cut the lead to 24-7 at halftime.

Klein Collins scored two more times in the second half when Michael Wilson scored on an 11-yard touchdown run and then Parks scampered 16 yards for a fourth-quarter score for a 38-7 lead.

The Eagles got a late game score when Johnson hit Josh Gillis-Harry on a 18-yard scoring pass to make the final 38-14.
