Former Dawson kicker makes immediate impact at Arizona State

Date:

Freshman kicker Carter Brown made his collegiate debut in a big way for Arizona State.

The Sun Devils opened the 2022 football season against the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks and came away with a solid 40-3 win.

Brown, who was an All-State kicker for Dawson last season, calmly stepped up to boot 4-of-4 field goals covering 27, 36, 44, and 44-yards while hitting 4-of-4 PATs for a total of 16 points.

The longest field goal Arizona State had last year was 40-yards, so Brown has already set a higher bar for this year.

“There was never any doubt from us,” Dawson head coach Mike Allison said of the entire Dawson coaching staff. “We know what kind of young man he is and how much work he puts in.

“God has given him talent, and he’s worked on it. He’s a dadgum workhorse when it comes to perfecting his craft. In my 25 years of coaching, Carter is the second kicker I’ve been around that seems to have that drive and talent and ability and work ethic. The other was Thomas Morstead.”
