Dawson High School students represent district at DECA International

Four Dawson High School students secured medals at the DECA International Career Development Conference held in Orlando, Florida on April 22-25.

Tenth-grader John “JP” Jewell received four medals, including two silver for scoring in the top 10 of Retail Merchandising exam and role play series, one gold in the preliminary round as a top 20 semi-finalist and an additional gold and ranking as a top 10 finalist. Senior Howard Shi and tenth-grader Michael Christener received silver medals for scoring in the top 10 in Restaurant Management and Sports and Entertainment Marketing in the semi-finals round. Senior Aarushi Lakhi was awarded the Lynore Levenhagen Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $1,000.

This year, over 22,000 high school students competed at the international conference to demonstrate their college and career readiness.

Comprising more than 3,500 high school chapters, DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe. The program also provides students with competitions in the fields of finance, management and entrepreneurship, simulating real-life business scenarios and testing students’ academic understanding and skills development.
