FHS finishes in Top 10 for 5A Lone Star Cup

Friendswood High School has achieved a tremendous milestone by finishing in the Top 10 in the 2022-2023 UIL 5A Lone Star Cup standings. A testament to the school’s commitment to excellence in a wide variety of extracurricular activities, Friendswood ended the season with an impressive 72 points.

The Lone Star Cup competition honors the best overall academic, athletic, and music programs in the state of Texas. Points for the Lone Star Cup are earned in categories that span across 24 diverse activities. These range from athletics, including team tennis, cross country, football, and basketball, to fine arts like marching band, theatrical design, and film, to STEM-oriented competitions such as robotics.

Friendswood High School’s achievement reflects the cumulative effort of their students and faculty, who have excelled across the spectrum of UIL competitions. Their success demonstrates the value of a holistic education model that encourages students to pursue a wide variety of interests.

Despite fierce competition, Friendswood students demonstrated their prowess, not just in sports, but also in a variety of other fields. Their points tally came from consistent performances in diverse areas, showcasing the multifaceted talents of Friendswood’s student population.

First place in the UIL 5A Lone Star Cup standings went to Argyle High School, which finished with an outstanding 96 points. Despite the stiff competition, Friendswood High School proved itself a worthy contender, demonstrating an impressive breadth and depth of talent.

The UIL 5A Lone Star Cup, established by the University Interscholastic League (UIL), is a highly coveted award recognizing the top high school programs in Texas. Each year, schools across the state compete in a variety of disciplines, with the top schools earning a place in the esteemed rankings.

Friendswood has finished in first place in the Lone Star Cup three times since its inception. The last time was 2014.

While this year’s competition was tough, Friendswood High School has once again shown its ability to compete at the highest levels, proving that with dedication, teamwork, and spirit, great things can be achieved. Friendswood High School’s Top 10 finish is not just a proud moment for the school, but also for the entire Friendswood community.
