FVFD pins eight new firefighters

Date:

This Summer may have brought extreme heat to Friendswood, but it has also given rise to eight new firefighters fresh out of the Fire Academy.

Last week the Friendswood Volunteer Fire Department (FVFD) proudly hosted not one, but two New Member Pinning Ceremonies. The ceremonies recognized and celebrated eight individuals who have been newly certified as volunteer firefighters within the department.

The rigorous journey to certification is not an easy one. All volunteer firefighters at FVFD are required to hold certifications from the State Firemen’s and Fire Marshal’s Association (SFFMA), the governing body that oversees the training and certification of volunteer firefighters. In order to achieve the prestigious SFFMA certification, aspiring firefighters must successfully pass through the College of the Mainland’s Fire Academy. Furthermore, they must conquer state exams, ensuring they meet the rigorous standards set by the SFFMA.

While the path to certification involves exposure to intense heat, challenging physical conditions, and long hours of studying, eight dedicated individuals emerged triumphant. Richard Christensen, Jon Harkness, Regina Hartman, Garret Leitko, Evan McDonald, Kyle Speck, Kandess Stepanski, and Todd Valderas have all demonstrated commendable resilience and dedication, proving that they were indeed up for the task.
