ACC First Class of TWU Nursing Graduates

Date:

Four Alvin Community College Nursing students recently completed their Associate’s Degree while also finishing their Bachelor’s Degree from Texas Woman’s University.
The students are the first class to graduate from both programs under a partnership between ACC and TWU.

“The partnership that the Alvin Community College Associate Degree Nursing program has with Texas Woman’s University provides our students with an expedited path to gaining their Bachelor’s Degree,” said Ashely White, ACC Nursing instructor. “Having a Bachelor’s degree opens many additional job opportunities for these graduates. During this program, the students take courses at both colleges concurrently, allowing them the chance to graduate with both degrees at the same time.”

The graduates are Eliora Aseh, Angela Brown, Chrissy Pippen, and Cristina Alessandra Resendiz.

ACC and TWU signed the agreement for the program in 2020. The program was designed to help reduce education costs and shorten the time for students to pursue their Bachelor’s degrees.

“Since the Bachelor’s degree is required for entry-level nursing positions at some hospitals, particularly those in the Texas Medical Center, this allows the graduates to gain employment when they otherwise would not qualify,” White said.

The program will also help reduce the shortage of nurses in the state. Texas is projected to have a deficit of some 60,000 registered nurses (RN) and nearly 5,000 nurse practitioners (NP) by the year 2030, about 20 percent fewer registered nurses and 25 percent fewer Nurse Practitioners than the state projects it will need to meet demand, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services.
