The Year of the Dragon is approaching.

Chinese New Year officially begins this year on Feb. 10 — the second new moon after the winter solstice.

The Pearland Chinese Association will host a Lunar New Year Gala on Feb. 10 at the C.A. Nelson Auditorium, 2337 North Galveston Avenue, from 7 to 9:30 p.m. A Lunar New Year Festival is also planned from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Feb. 24 at the Pearland Recreation Center, 4141 Bailey Road.

The festival is open to all and includes a Lion Dance and Dragon Dance, paintings, traditional Chinese music and costumes, fencing, origami, traditional games, Tai Chi, Chinese Chess, calligraphy, and more.

These local events are supported by the CVB’s Cultural Arts Grant program.
