The Friendswood ISD Education Foundation (FEF) had the privilege of linking arms with the Montz family to award the inaugural Kimberly Montz Memorial Grant on Monday, Dec. 18.

The Kimberly Montz Memorial Grant, an endowed fund that now sits at over $50,000, was established thanks to the generosity of the Montz family and the Friendswood community to honor a cherished member of the FEF family, Kimberly Montz.

“Kim was such an instrumental part of the Education Foundation for over 13 years,” FEF Board President Molly Crow said. “It is an honor for her legacy to live on through the Foundation by awarding a grant in her honor and memory each year.”

Kim was a Friendswood High School 1987 graduate who married her high school sweetheart, David, who serves as Vice President on the FISD School Board of Trustees.

“I was filled with mixed emotions while celebrating with family and friends as we presented the very first FEF memorial grant in honor of my beautiful wife Kim,” David Montz said.
With a recommendation from the Montz family, FEF selected Windsong Media Integration Specialist Amy Boyer’s “Strawbees Robotics” grant as the first grant to be awarded.
Boyer was completely surprised and truly touched by the honor.

“Every year, Kim loved grant season in FISD,” Kim’s sister Sarah Furman said. “It was a privilege to be able to continue sharing Kim’s love of education and innovation with the giving of this first grant.”

The Montz family expresses their sincere gratitude for the love and support received from so many to help create a meaningful, impactful, and lasting legacy for Kim.

“In a season of many emotional ‘firsts’ for me and my family since her passing,” David Montz said, “I am happy to be able to bring some joy to the students of our great school district. Kim would have loved this celebration and with this grant, Kim’s spirit will live on forever.”
