If gardening is an interest, Galveston County Master Gardeners and Heritage Gardeners are both offering opportunities to learn more about a variety of topics in April.
On Saturday, April 13, a free presentation on Louisiana Iris will be given by Galveston County Master Gardener Monica Martens, Ed.D. from 9 am to noon. Martens will present types for this region, cultivation information, and how to obtain and share them.
The presentation includes a visit to the special iris collection in Master Gardeners Discovery Garden inside Carbide Park. The Discovery Garden is located at 4102 Main St (FM 519), La Marque. Nature’s Good Guys: Beneficial Insects will be presented by Galveston County Master Gardener and Entomologist Specialist Hedy Wolpa on Saturday, April 20 from 9-11 am.
Presentation includes information, photos of beneficial and pest insects common to this area, and how to attract beneficial ones. The free presentation will take place in the Galveston County AgriLife Extension Office located in Carbide Park at 4102-B Main Street (FM 512). You Too Can Be a Superstar Gardener will be a Texas Superstar® plants presentation by Galveston County Master Gardeners Sue Bain and Karen Nelson. It will be free and held on Saturday, April 20 from 1-3 pm. Texas Superstar® plants thrive easily in tough growing conditions in Texas. They produce stellar blooms and fruit. Location will be Galveston County AgriLife Extension Office located in Carbide Park at 4102-B Main Street (FM 512).

On April 27, Heritage Gardeners in Friendswood is hosting three free presentations inside their clubhouse at 112 W. Spreading Oaks in Friendswood. No registration is needed and seating is on a first come basis.
From 9-9:30 am Galveston County Master Gardener and Master Naturalist Chris Anastas will present Create a Pollinator Garden for a Backyard. She will explain how to prepare a small pollinator garden in a container which is perfect for small yards and patios.
From 10-11, Galveston County Master Gardener and plumeria specialist Loretta Osteen will present How to Successfully Grow Plumeria. Osteen has amazing tips to help plumeria growers have amazing plants and blooms.
From 11:30 am to12:30 pm, fruit specialist Robert Marshall will help gardeners grow their own fruit. Marshall is presenting Fruit Trees for Your Backyard. He will provide quality education on the topic and answer fruit growers’ questions. His backyard orchard has provided many years of experience.
