Schirck Claims Gold in UIL Shot Put Championship

Date:

In a spectacular display of strength and precision, Friendswood High School senior Brandon Schirck clinched the gold medal in the UIL Class 5A shot put event last Friday at Mike A. Myers Stadium, the very venue where he will continue his athletic career as a University of Texas signee.

Last year, Schirck settled for silver after being narrowly outperformed by Sharyland Pioneer’s then-senior Evan Thompson, now an athlete at Incarnate Word.

However, this year, Schirck left no room for doubt, securing the top spot on the podium with a commanding throw of 64 feet, 1.5 inches. This remarkable effort surpassed his nearest competitor by almost four feet, underscoring his dominance in the field.

Even more impressively, Schirck’s second-best throw of the day, which measured 61 feet, 1.75 inches and was achieved on his second attempt, would have been sufficient to win the event, highlighting his consistency and skill in the shot put.

Brandon Schirck’s victory not only marks a personal triumph but also brings pride to Friendswood High School, celebrating his growth and dedication to the sport.

As he prepares to transition to collegiate athletics at Texas, Schirck’s future in track and field looks exceptionally promising. His performance is a beacon of inspiration for his teammates and the younger athletes at Friendswood.
