‘Cooling Stations’ Open for Extreme Heat

Date:

United Way of Brazoria County, in collaboration with the Brazoria County Library System, Brazoria County Dream Center, and Gulf Coast Transit District, has established cooling stations throughout the county.

From now until September 30, 2024, all Brazoria County Libraries, the Salvation Army, and the Brazoria County Dream Center will be open and accessible to residents when the heat index is forecasted to reach 100 degrees or higher, Monday through Saturday during their scheduled hours.

The Gulf Coast Transit District, partnering with the United Way of Brazoria County, is offering transportation services for those in need. Residents can call the Gulf Coast Transit District at 979-487-2318 to request a free ride to one of the cooling stations. The driver will issue a pass, which will be signed by a librarian or an employee at the cooling station, to ensure a return trip.

Groups, organizations, and individuals wishing to donate cases of bottled water can drop them off at any of the 12 libraries throughout the county.
