Pearland City Council on Monday denied a requested rezone of an undeveloped lot at 2502 Hatfield Road from commercial to residential.

“It’s a difficult, difficult tract of land to do something with,” Mayor Kevin Cole said regarding the property, which is traversed by multiple pipelines. “Especially (high density) residential.”

City staff and the Planning and Zoning Commission both recommended against granting the requested change.

“I think we’re trying to fit a round peg in a square hole, and I don’t know that it fits here,” Councilman Tony Carbone said.
