The Library System is happy to announce the introduction of the Wavemaker FX3100 Router as an item available in the library catalog. These devices are available for checkout with your library card and are listed in the catalog as “BCLS Home Internet Router.” The checkout period for this device is two weeks and it cannot be renewed.
Hotspots are great, especially for people on the go, but if your household needs a more robust stationary internet connection than a hotspot can handle, this is the device for you to check out!
The routers are compatible with all WiFi enabled devices and can support up to 64 devices – double the amount of our current hotspots at 32. The routers include an unlimited data plan. The FX3100 routers are able to pull a stronger signal than most other devices thanks to the 4dBi Gain Internal Antenna.
Along with a full suite of routing capabilties, it also offers firewall protection. The router is under T-Mobile’s coverage area which includes 4G and 5G for Brazoria County. Please check the cellular coverage map on the T-Mobile website to determine if this router will work at your location.
These stationary internet devices are meant to remain in one spot in order to provide a WiFi signal for your whole household.
To activate the router in your home, plug the router into a wall outlet – preferably near a window but out of direct sunlight to avoid overheating. Be aware it may take up to 30 minutes to establish a connection, regardless of LED indicator light color.
After turning on the router, go to your device’s WiFi settings, select “BCLS Home Internet” and enter the password. The full name of the router and its password are located on the back of the device. To turn off the router, unplug it from the power outlet.
To request a router, go to our library catalog online at mybcls.org, log into your acount and search for “BCLS Home Internet Router.” Then place your request and indicate which branch you would like to pick it up at. You will be notified when it becomes available.
