Carrie Durso, a student at Friendswood High School, achieved remarkable success on Sunday by securing 3rd place in the Children’s Stories category at the Technology Student Association (TSA) National Conference.
The competition took place in Orlando, Florida, from June 26-30, bringing together talented students from across the nation.
Carrie’s now award-winning book, “You’re Not Alone Little Zebra,” is based on her personal experiences growing up with Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (hEDS).
Diagnosed at the age of 14, Carrie faced the challenges of living with a chronic illness and was disheartened by the lack of children’s literature that addressed such experiences. Motivated by this gap, she set out on a mission to create a story that would resonate with children facing similar health issues.
Carrie’s dedication paid off as her book not only earned accolades at the TSA National Conference. “You’re Not Alone Little Zebra” is now available for purchase on Amazon and through her official website, yourenotalonelittlezebra.com.
Reflecting on her journey, Carrie expressed her gratitude for the recognition and the opportunity to share her story. “Winning third place at the TSA National Conference is an incredible honor. I wrote this book to let children with chronic illnesses know they are not alone and that their stories matter. I hope it brings comfort and understanding to many families.”
