School Board incumbents file for re-election

Date:

This November, four Friendswood ISD School Board positions will be up for re-election and the incumbents are not wasting any time.

On Monday, the first day for candidates to file for a spot on the ballot, Tony Hopkins, Rebecca Hillenburg, Niki Rhodes, and Laura Seifert had all turned in their paperwork at the school district.

In position 1, Laura Seifert will be seeking her third term. In a public announcement regarding her decision to seek re-election, Seifert said, “The journey has been exhilarating, challenging, fulfilling, and demanding—one of the greatest honors of my life. We’ve come so far, and there’s so much more to accomplish.”

In position 2, Niki Rhodes will run for a second term.

In her official announcement, she stated, “My commitment remains to ensuring that every student receives a high-quality education in a safe environment, our teachers and staff feel seen, heard, and connected, and that our school district continues to be a source of pride for our community.”

In position 3, Dr. Rebecca Hillenburg seeks a sixth term. Hillenburg has also served as President of the School Board. In her re-election announcement, she stated, “It is an honor and privilege to serve our district.”

In position 4, current School Board President Tony Hopkins will run for a fifth term. Hopkins said in his public announcement, “I have always believed that with a good education, any child can achieve the American Dream, and that is why I serve.”

As of this writing, only one candidate has filed to oppose an incumbent. Dr. Donald C. Stran, a podiatrist, will be running for Position 2 against Niki Rhodes.

The filing deadline is August 19th, and the general election will be November 5th. All four positions are expected to have challengers this year.
