SNAP hot food benefits ending

Date:

According to Texas Health and Human Services, an added benefit of purchasing hot and prepared foods with a SNAP card will expire on Aug. 14.

To help those without power after Hurricane Beryl, the added benefit allows cardholders to buy foods such as rotisserie chicken, prepared deli items, and hot grocery store food at the point of sale.

No action is required for SNAP recipients to receive the additional benefit, which is approved at participating retailers in 36 Texas counties, including Brazoria, Fort Bend, Harris and Galveston.

Texans in need can apply for benefits, including SNAP and Medicaid, at YourTexasBenefits.com or using the Your Texas Benefits mobile app. To find local resources, such as food or shelter, dial 2-1-1 and select Option 1.
