Friendswood ISD School Board race heats up

Date:

This November, the Friendswood ISD School Board election is shaping up to be one of the most contentious school district elections in recent memory. Four positions are up for re-election, and all four incumbents face challengers vying for their seats.

On July 20th, the first day for candidates to file for a spot on the ballot, incumbents Tony Hopkins, Dr. Rebecca Hillenburg, Niki Rhodes, and Laura Seifert quickly submitted their paperwork.

In Position 1, Laura Seifert, seeking her third term, now faces Bradley Clapp.
Niki Rhodes, running for a second term in Position 2, was the first to face an opponent, with Dr. Donald C. Stran, a podiatrist, filing against her.

In Position 3, Dr. Rebecca Hillenburg, seeking her sixth term, will be challenged by Debra Sue Spurr.

Position 4 has seen the entry of John Scott, a former Friendswood City Councilman, who will be running against current School Board President Tony Hopkins, seeking his fifth term.

Early voting for this election will begin on October 21st, with the general election slated for November 5th.

The filing deadline is August 19th, which means there is still time for additional candidates to throw their hat in the ring, although none are expected.
