Friendswood ISD kicks off 85th year with new PAC

Date:

Friendswood ISD began its 85th year on a high note, welcoming teachers back to a freshly completed Performing Arts Center (PAC) at Friendswood High School during the annual Convocation event on Monday. The state-of-the-art, two-story building represents a significant milestone for the district’s bond projects.

The Convocation included an address from Superintendent Thad Roher, who highlighted the challenges and triumphs leading to the completion of the stage from which he spoke. He shared some of the highs and lows, including his own health struggle, which came at a challenging time during the construction process. Despite these hurdles, the PAC is completed just in time for the arrival of students on August 13.

School Board President Tony Hopkins also took to the stage, reflecting on the long and storied history of Friendswood ISD. He emphasized the district’s role as the “cornerstone of the community,” underscoring the importance of education in Friendswood.

The new PAC is expected to serve as a hub for cultural and artistic activities, providing students and the community with a venue to showcase their talents and foster a deeper appreciation for the performing arts.

The Convocation event, which traditionally marks the beginning of the school year, was also an opportunity for educators to gather, reconnect, and look forward to the new academic year while setting a positive and enthusiastic tone.
