The City of Pearland on Monday expanded its debris removal contract by $1.5 million as cleanup continues following Hurricane Beryl, which came ashore July 8.
The city pre-approves debris contracts annually before each hurricane season, based on expected quantity, City Manager Trent Epperson said.
“We’re currently expecting debris removal for Beryl to be approximately 200,000 cubic yards,” he said, reminding the city council that FEMA will reimburse 75 percent of the removal costs. “We’re exceeding the amount we originally approved.”
City staff said the FEMA reimbursements for debris removal are expected within the next fiscal year.
