Alvin ISD: Website, presentation address school bonds

Alvin ISD is distributing information to voters while a group of community volunteers is working to help pass the school district’s Nov. 5 bond election.

If approved by voters on Nov. 5, bond proceeds would fund more than $380.1 million in projects to address future facility needs such as new schools, renovations, and security measures.

Following an open house for parents, Wilder Elementary, 2225 Kinglsey, will host an informational presentation regarding the bonds at 5:30 p.m.

Bond funding would be designated for land purchases and construction of two new elementary campuses and one junior high school, expansion and renovations at Alvin and Manvel high schools, and combining Stevenson Primary and Walt Disney Elementary into one new replacement campus.

Also included in the proposal are security vestibules at 25 campuses, upgrading monitoring equipment, and installing backup generators.

Bond projects were based on recommendations from a citizen advisory committee that included parents, business leaders from the Pearland portion of Alvin ISD, and elected officials.

A volunteer group known as Team Alvin ISD has launched pages on social media as well as a website at teamalvinisd.com.

Alvin ISD last held a bond election in 2018, but the district is projected to enroll more than 33,074 by 2028, according to demographers. That number will grow to nearly 37,000 by 2033, forecasts say.

Early voting for the Nov. 5 election begins Oct. 21. For more information on bond projects, visit alvinisd.net/Bond2024
