New authorization for the superintendent to create an advisory committee was approved by the FISD school board on September 9th. This committee will review the 2020 facilities plan and form a new one to include recommendations for future facility and maintenance upgrades.
“This gives us as a team permission to move forward in gathering what a team might look like, soliciting an architect firm to help us walk through the process, and then move forward with a recommendation to the board,” Superintendent Thad Roher said.
According to School Board President Tony Hopkins, this committee’s members need differing perspectives.
“Number one, the majority of the committee needs to be our citizens because they are the ones that have to pay,” Hopkins said. “I love that we’re going to include students as well because they bring a different lens on situations. Bringing in folks that don’t normally volunteer or are not on the radar are good things that we need for any committee.”
Anyone can ask to be on the committee, which Superintendent Thad Roher recommends should be reviewed every five years moving forward.
