2024 Halloween Guide: ‘Hops and History’ among highlights of season

A historic cemetery tour and staging of a new version of “Dracula” are among seasonal offerings in the Pearland area as Halloween nears.

“Hops and History” A Tour of Old Settler’s Cemetery” will be held at 6 and 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 25, at the Old Settler’s Cemetery.

Tours will be led by a special pathfinder from the past, meeting early Pearland residents along the route. This event is presented by Vallenson’s, the Forever Parks Foundation, Commissioner Stacy Adams’ office, and Visit Pearland.

Ticket holders should arrive at the brewery 15 minutes before the scheduled tour and dress for a 10-minute walk outdoors through semi-rough terrain. Flashlights, water bottles, and proper footwear are recommended. Tickets include two beer tokens redeemable in the Vallenson’s taproom.

Tickets are $25 and available pre-sale only. Proceeds benefit the Forever Parks Foundation.

Family friendly fall

The city’s new “Fall for It” event on Oct. 19 will include a costume contest and parade at Independence Park.

The event is held in conjunction with the third anniversary celebration of the Farmer’s Market, which begins at 11 a.m. with a 4 p.m. meet and greets with characters from “Inside Out,” which will be screened at the park at 6 p.m. The costume contest is at 4:30 p.m., and the parade is at 5 p.m.

The second annual Howl-O-Woof Bash is from 5 to 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 20 at 8311 Freedom Drive. The pet-friendly celebration includes costume contests with categories such as best duo, funniest, scariest, and most creative, plus live music, treats, candy, and games.
Options for families seeking alternatives to neighborhood trick or treating include the Pearland Town Center’s Trick or Treat on Our Street at 4 p.m. Oct. 26, or at Cole’s Flea Market, 1014 Main St., on the same day.

Pearl presents a new take on ‘Dracula’

For a classic scary story mixed with humor, the Pearl Theater will stage “Dracula: A Comedy of Terrors” on Oct. 18 with performances through Oct. 27 at 14803 Park Almeda Drive.
The comedy version of the literary classic features five actors playing more than a dozen roles.

The box office opens an hour before showtime for ticket purchase and pickup. Tickets are $18 for seniors and students and $20 for adults.

Scare on the Square

The third annual outdoor Scare on the Square hosted by the University of Houston Clear Lake at Pearland will be this Saturday, Oct. 12, at 1200 Pearland Parkway.

Free and open to the public, the fall event includes inflatables, games, face painting, and food trucks from 2 to 5 p.m.
