P&Z opposes zone change request

Date:

Members of the Pearland Planning and Zoning voted to recommend against a requested zone change to residential for a Knapp Road lot zoned for commercial.

Annexed into the city in 1990, the undeveloped lot is north of Knapp Road and surrounded by offices and warehouses with single-family homes on the east.

Property owners are seeking a zoning change to residential to build custom homes there.
The request will be decided at a future meeting of the Pearland City Council but must pass with a supermajority without Planning and Zoning’s recommendation.

City planning staff also recommended against the request, saying it is not compatible with the city’s comprehensive plan, which calls for manufacturing and warehouse in the area.
