ACC Regents Approve Construction for Building K

The Alvin Community College Board of Regents approved a construction package to renovate Building K during their meeting on November 21.

The $527,987 package will include renovations to the HVAC systems, electrical, lighting, flooring, roofing and more. The building will house programs through the newly-created Center for Excellence for Legal Studies and Public Service. The programs include the Law Enforcement Academy, Paralegal studies, Criminal Justice, Substance Abuse Counseling and more.

The building has previously been used as a training facility for the Law Enforcement Academy and other law enforcement agencies.

In other action, Institutional Effectiveness and Research Dean Pat Sanger presented the 2023-24 Annual Report. According to the data collected 71 percent of the students at ACC are 21 and younger, females make up 59 percent of the college’s student body, 73 percent of students are part time and 36 percent of all students are new to higher education.

-approved expenditures with Datavox Inc. for ACC West campus
-approved $167,000 grant purchase for training ambulance for EMS program
-approved $105,000 grant purchase for human patient simulators
The board will have its next meeting on January 9 at 6 p.m. in the Nolan Ryan Center.

The Board of Regents recognized staff members for coordinating and putting on the recent 49th ACC Annual Fall Festival.
