TPWD: Dates set for crab trap removal

Date:

Texas Parks and Wildlife announced that Texas coastal waters will be closed to crabbing from February 21 to March 2 for an annual volunteer crab trap cleanup.

For the past 23 years, in February, volunteers have searched and removed abandoned traps that foul shrimpers’ nets, snag anglers’ lines, and create unsightly views. Volunteers and Texas Parks and Wildlife staff have hauled off nearly 44,000 derelict traps, saving an estimated 720,000 blue crabs.

For more information, contact Holly Grand at 361-431-6003, Ext. 822 or email crabtrap@tpwd.texas.gov.
