Time capsule in place for next 50 years

Date:

by Nicole Bradford

A time capsule representing life in Brazoria County was secured on April 1, but it’s no joke that its contents won’t be seen again until 2075.
“Today inside the time capsule we preserve the pieces of who we are in 2025, our challenges, our triumphs and the spirit of a community that continues to grow and serve with pride,” County Judge Matt Sebesta told representatives of various communities gathered to see the capsule interred in the atrium of the new courthouse justice center.
The capsule’s placement was part of a ribbon cutting for the Angleton courthouse expansion, which houses state district courts and district attorney’s offices, among others.
Many of the items in the capsule were collected during a March 22 “Imagining the Future” event at the Brazoria County Historical Museum, which included a “video station” where residents could record messages for the future. Families and individuals also added videos, photos, small items, brochures, and toys to the capsule. It will be opened during a 250th celebration of the official settlement of what is now Brazoria County.
